Gu rain is below
than expected

The Gu rain started in the middle of
April in all the zones in the region and most of the zones received
three to five days of heavy down pours in the third dekad of April.
Gode, Afder and Liban zones experienced good rains in the last week
of April. The rain has improved the water situation in the region,
except parts of Boh and Danot woredas of Warder zone...

10 die, over 80,000 stranded in floods in
Eastern Ethiopia

Addis Ababa (dpa) 5 May 2003 -
Ten people were killed Sunday as floods from the Wabe Shebelle River swept over parts of the Ogaden region of eastern Ethiopia, reports said Monday.
Over 80,000 inhabitants of the towns of Mustahilland Kelafo were
stranded on high ground, as they were forced to flee their homes.

The extent of flooding in Kenya and
Somalia has increased over the last few days. Thousands of people are
reportedly displaced in Busia,Kisumu and Baringo districts in Kenya,
and roads rendered impassable in parts of both these districts. Over
30 people are feared dead...
